Two Village Events coming up !

First, today is the Bike Rodeo and Open House, from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. at the Police Department, 200 W. McKinley Ave., Little Chute. The event is sponsored by the Fox Valley Metro Police. More information can be found at this Village website article.

Second, the Gypsy Moth spraying date has been changed. The expected spraying dates last time I looked was sometime between May 13th through May 16th. But the most recent phone-hotline message talks about delays in spraying in other counties (due to bad weather) and gives no expected spray date for Outagamie County. More info can be found at this Village website article and at www.gypsymoth.wi.gov. Or you can call 1-800-642-6684 (1-800-642-MOTH) and press Option No. 1 for up-to-date information on the areas being sprayed.

Meeting notes for the May 5th Village Board meeting are now available in the info-center. Some of the highlights of the meeting are:

  • Closed-session: I raised concerns at the meeting that the meeting agenda didn’t disclose the subject of the closed session, contrary to the WI Attorney General’s Legal Guidance on Closed Sessions. The closed session, at the end of the meeting, lasted an hour and a half.
  • The changes to the Floodplain Zoning went smoothly. The changes were mostly needed for floodplain lands to continue to qualify for flood insurance.
  • Vicki Schneider finished off her Master of Municipal Clerks (MMC) designation. Congrats Vicki !
  • Beth Carpenter had interesting comments on the Fox Cities Book Festival (including some videos available on YouTube) and other Library initiatives.

The clay sewer pipe replacements issue is percolating again. Now that several hundred residents have had their laterals replaced, some of the problems with the current policy are beginning to show more clearly.  The Village staff have advanced new proposals for handling some of the problems that have come up.

More importantly, Gabe Konopka, a regular attendee at the Village Board meetings, has contributed his own proposal for revising the current Policy. It looks like a good start to me, and a great basis for further discussion by the Village Board

There’s a summary of the issue in the Info-Center. I’ll update this summary as things move along.

I’ll keep you posted !  If you have any questions or concerns,  please post a comment below or send me an email.  I can pass along your comments and suggestions to the Village leadership, use them to guide further developments on LittleChuteMatters.org, or just chat with you “over the fence.”  Either way, I’d enjoy hearing from you !

Notes are available for the Village Board meeting of April 21st. This is the first meeting of the Village Board that has the three newly elected Trustees seated on the Board.

There won’t be any notes for the April 28th meeting for a while. I wasn’t able to attend the meeting last week, and I just found out that there’s a 10-day turnaround for cassette tapes of the meetings. I’ll post a summary of the official Meeting Minutes once those become available in a week or so.

On Saturday April 24, 2010, from 8 a.m to noon, residents from Little Chute and surrounding areas can bring computers and other electronics they want to recycle to the parking lot of the Save A Lot grocery story at 133 West Main Street, Little Chute.
