“Catch a Falling Star”

The Pyrotechnics Guild International, Inc. will have their annual Fireworks Convention at the Wisconsin International Raceway again this year !  The convention will be from Saturday, August 7 through Friday, August 13.

There will be three big evenings of public displays: Sunday (August 8), Wednesday (August 11) and Friday (August 13), when the PGI will ” knock your socks off” at the Raceway.   They will start around 8:30 PM and will feature over an hour of fireworks displays on each of those evenings.  Ticket information can be found at the PGI website along with the display schedule.

Saturday, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday will be days reserved for the PGI membership only.  The 2010 Wisconsin PGI Convention page, gives additional details of the events.  There will be workshops and lectures at the Raceway and at the Radison Paper Valley.  There will be competitions (closed to the public) on Monday and Tuesday.  There will also be open shooting available to PGI members on every day of the convention.

We’ll see our evening skies light up over the next few days !

Little Chute’s 5th Annual Family Fun Fest !!

Tuesday, August 3 at Doyle Park

Little Chute Parks, Recreation & Forestry Director Tom Flick wants all of us to know about the 5th Annual Family Fun Fest that will be held at Doyle Park on Tuesday, August 3rd from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

It’s an event especially for families with kids, but all are welcome ! There will be all kinds of Free Activities. There will also be Free Admission to the Pool from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

A MEAL with a hamburger or hotdog, bag of chips, and a soda will ONLY be $1.00 PER PERSON.

There will be stuff for kids to do including:

  • Giant inflatables (a Slide, a Bounce house, an Obstacle Course, Football Throw)
  • A Trackless Train (yeah!)
  • Balloon Twist Animals
  • Games and Prize Give-a-ways
  • A DJ playing music during the event (thanks to a donation from the Great Wisconsin Cheese Festival).

This should be a lot of fun: kids, pool, food, great activities and music !

OK, OK. So I’m biased towards good food, good music and kids running around having fun! But, I wonder if that trackless train has seats big enough for adults

Due to heavy rains and humid conditions in the Fox Valley recently, several people have asked me about how best to clean up mildew and mold.  For houses that were actually flooded last week, the best thing to do of course, is to consult professionals familiar with floodwater cleanup.  In addition to professional help though, organizations like the Red-Cross and the EPA provide online cleanup information.  Some examples are the Red-Cross’s “Repairing Your Flooded Home” page and the EPA’s “Flood Cleanup” page.  There are PDF booklets on these pages that can be downloaded and printed, in addition to the online help.

For people who want to do minor cleanup with commonly available, effective, low-toxicity household chemicals, there are also some good online resources.  These include the Washington State Department of Health‘s page called “Got Mold?”, and the Dakota County (MN)‘s page called “Green Household Cleaning Recipes”.  These sites offer practical information on how to clean up mildew and mold around the house.  They also have downloadable PDF booklets of their information in addition to the online help.

Whether you have professionals do your cleanup or you do it yourself, continue reading…

It’s been many weeks since I’ve posted on LittleChuteMatters.  I just wanted all of you to know that I’ve run into some difficulties with how the website works and I’m fixing the problems.  The problems all relate to the info-center.  The problems are partly continue reading…
